A simple, safe and efficient synthesis of Tyrian purple (6,6'-dibromoindigo).
6,6'-Dibromoindigo is a major component of the historic pigment Tyrian purple, arguably the most famous dye of antiquity. Over the last century, chemists have been interested in developing practical syntheses of the compound We describe herein a new, reasonably simple and efficient synthesis of Tyrian purple which opens the way to the production of large quantities of the dye with minimal hazar...

متن کاملMonobromoindigos : a new general synthesis, the characterization of all four isomers and an investigation into the purple colour of 6,6o-dibromoindigo¤
A new general synthesis of all four isomers of monobromoindigo is outlined, the synthesis of 4-, 6and 7-bromoindigo being described for the Ðrst time. All four monobromoindigos as well as indigo and the historically important 6,6@-dibromoindigo (Tyrian purple) have been characterized by 1H NMR spectroscopy of their N,N@bis(triÑuoroacetyl) derivatives, by FT-IR and FT Raman spectroscopy, and by ...
متن کاملSurface-Induced Phase of Tyrian Purple (6,6′-Dibromoindigo): Thin Film Formation and Stability
The appearance of surface-induced phases of molecular crystals is a frequently observed phenomenon in organic electronics. However, despite their fundamental importance, the origin of such phases is not yet fully resolved. The organic molecule 6,6'-dibromoindigo (Tyrian purple) forms two polymorphs within thin films. At growth temperatures of 150 °C, the well-known bulk structure forms, while a...
متن کاملIn Silico Modeling of Indigo and Tyrian Purple Single-Electron Nano-Transistors Using Density Functional Theory Approach
The purpose of this study was to develop and implement an in silico model of indigoid-based single-electron transistor (SET) nanodevices, which consist of indigoid molecules from natural dye weakly coupled to gold electrodes that function in a Coulomb blockade regime. The electronic properties of the indigoid molecules were investigated using the optimized density-functional theory (DFT) with a...
